Total Time Needed: 1-2 Hours
Here's a whimsical decorating idea that will reflect your child's personality: embellishing an ordinary mirror with a fantastical frame. Below, you'll see a sampling of fun motifs for customizing a mirror of your own.
Materials
- Assortment of knickknacks and doodads (such as the odd game-board pieces seen in the above picture)
- Mirror with frame
- Strong nontoxic craft glue that dries clear (we recommend two brands, Weldbond and Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue)
- Cardboard or plastic bag for protecting work area
- Paintbrush or foam brush (for spreading glue)
Instructions
1. If the frame you're using has an exceptionally glossy finish, you may want to lightly sand it with fine-grit sandpaper. Otherwise, you can just start decorating. Cover your work surface with cardboard or a plastic trash bag to guard against spilled glue and ease the cleanup.
2. Lay the mirror flat and, working a section at a time, generously spread glue on the frame using a paintbrush or foam brush and then press on the objects. You can arrange the items in an orderly fashion or overlap and layer them with some parts extending beyond the frame edge -- anything goes. And don't worry about stray drops of glue on the glass; they can be easily peeled or scraped off once they dry.
3. When you've finished decorating the entire frame, allow the glue to dry thoroughly (it will turn clear) before hanging the mirror.
