How to make it

  1. Preheat oven to 350.  Butter and flour 3 (9 inch) round cake pans and set aside.
  2. Prepare cake batter according to box directions. Divide batter evenly into three bowls and color each with food coloring so you have a bowl of green, a bowl of purple, and a bowl of yellow cake batter.  Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for about 15 minutes or until tops spring back when lightly touched in the center. Let cakes cool in pans for about 5 minutes, then remove to wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Prepare frosting: In the bowl of your mixer, mix butter, milk and vanilla on medium low until smooth.  With the mixer on low, slowly add powdered sugar until just mixed. Increase speed to high and beat for one minute, until light and fluffy.
  4. Using a push pop container, cut cakes into circles. Place a cake circle in a push pop container, then place frosting in a resealable bag with a corner snipped off, and pipe frosting in layers between. Top with frosting and sprinkles.
