Spring Blossoms! Oreo Flower Cupcakes

Spring Blossoms! Oreo Flower Cupcakes

By Kelsey Banfield

I am not what you would consider an expert cake decorator. I usually stick to simple, clean designs because they are easier for me and always look nice. For actual designs, like flowers, I tend to rely on a few good tricks that always look good. For example, to make spring flower type designs I use an Oreo cookie for the center. If I use yellow icing to make the petals than I have a sunflower. If I use other colors I just have a whole host of pretty flowers like a garden. I find this SO much easier than trying to make three dimensional rosebuds like on professional cakes! Here is how you can make your own simple cupcake garden:

Ingredients:

  • One batch of your favorite vanilla cupcakes frosted with your favorite buttercream
  • 12 Oreo cookies
  • 1 can spray decorative frosting

Directions:

1. Place one Oreo cookie in the center of the frosted cupcake and press down so that it sticks on top securely. Then, use the spray frosting to make flower petals coming out of the cookie in all directions. Feel free to make thick or thin petals and layer them on top of one another.

2. Arrange your cupcake flowers on a platter with a green napkin underneath to look like the grass. Serve your spring garden cupcakes and enjoy!
